Many people have asked me if I know what happened to Remergent, a product that was mentioned as a breakthrough product in Allure 2006.  I believe that the new Clinique product called Repairwear Laser Focus UV Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector is a reformulation of Remergent.  The reason I think this is that Estee Lauder bought Remergent and the new product by Clinique makes similar claims.  I am not certain they are the same, but I hope so.  The Remergent technology was unique and had good data to show it protected DNA and reversed sun damage.  Has anyone tried Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus UV Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector?  What did you think?  Please come tell me in the general forums.

For years we have recommended that patients stop smoking at least 6 weeks prior to surgery.  Many patients resume smoking after the surgery. Smoking causes vasoconstriction (contraction of the blood vessels) which decreases the amount of blood that can go to the healing tissues.  A new study proved that stopping smoking after surgery for 6 months decreases complications.

Smoking is bad for your skin for many reasons.  The decreased blood flow and increased free radicals age skin.  Smoker’s wrinkles develop around the lips.  Elastin is lost in the skin which leads to sagging.  Please stop smoking if you are!  If you want to share any tips on smoking cessation come to the forums and begin a topic under general topics.

Report by the EWG caused a sunscreen scare.  See my blog that discusses the points in this report.   This EWG report is not excuse to stop wearing sunscreen.  The incidence of skin cancer keeps going up and up.  The safest sunscreens are “physical blockers” that contain zinc oxide.  Register to receive my upcoming newsletter on sunscreen or come to the forums to discuss.

The new Olay Regenerist Ads are great!  We am so pleased that they are realistic.  Maybe the trend of marketing hype and over promising is over and Olay is leading the charge.  Have you seen this ad?  They say “Not drastic, just fantastic.”  Good job Olay!  These ads are much better in our opinion than the ProX ads that state that ProX works as well as Renova and has the dermatologist’s signatures.  Even though they compared ProX to Renova in a study, they used the lowest strength Renova.  You KNOW we are a huge retinoid advocates, so we have nothing against ProX, we just feel it is not correct to say that ProX can work as well as a prescription when there are so many stronger prescription retinoids out there than the low strength Renova. 

Anyway- thanks Olay for taking this step.  Regenerist is such a great product that there is no need to inflate the claims. We have added all these ads to a cosmetic advertising collection we are amassing to demonstrate the change in claims that is occurring.  We believe that those of you who visit this site and other beauty blogs have helped to steer the companies towards more realistic marketing.  Thanks for your help in this “truth” campaign.  We will keep pushing for truth in advertising!

Hi everyone!  I know you have been wondering where I have been.  A lot is going on behind the scenes.  I now have my Amazon blog up.  If you have bought my book on Amazon- go to your plog and you will see it.  If not, look up my book The Skin Type Solution and go to my profile page.  That blog basically sends you here but it is a way to tell more people about this site.

Check out the home page- I have working hard on putting together a collage of the book media to explain my philosophy to newcomers.  I just put the video up today and I plan to upload it to utube.

Soon we will have an “About the blog” section in the forums similar to the “About the book” section so we can discuss the blogs.  We have other doctors to be added to the blog but one had a baby and one is translating The Skin Type Solution into Portuguese, so they are busy and we have not set it up yet.

MOST EXCITING NEWS!!  The Yahoo blog I have been mentioning starts Thursday. I will send a link when it is up.  I have been working hard on it and am very happy.  It will ahve new info for you and if they let me- product suggestions.

Newsletters:  the last two professional ones are going out soon. They are written.  I just need to design the header.  Then the professional newsletters will be phased out and all newsletters will be with the same subscription.  The price will stay the same for now to thank you for your patience as I got it all together.  I hope to have many newsletters for you soon!  Did everyone get the hydroquinone newsletter I sent out? How did you like it?  It is a new format.  More interactive and easier to read.  Please tell me what you think in the general discussion forum.

Product reviews:  I am working on it.  I have a meeting with the web designers next week.  I had to get the Yahoo stuff finished first.
